Madekwe is a British-Nigerian mixed race child, was born to an ethnically diverse family from South London. Her mother is English while her father is Nigerian. She was raised in a council estate in the south of London. When she was 14she enrolled in The Brit School. At the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art is where she earned a BA degree in acting. Madekwe was a part of Ashley Davenport on ABC's show The Beautiful Life. The two-episode show aired only for 2 weeks at The CW and then it came to an end.
